It’s a blackpill we need to accept instead of immediately assuming superiority over Western culture. There’s a reason only the Rashidun Caliphate is called ‘rightly guided’, over time especially post Abbasid the Ummah began to innovate and turn towards their backwards cultures instead of the righteous ways of true Islam
The orthodox moderate Islam we take for granted nowadays and the strong morality that came with it was heavily backed by the West (especially during the Victorian era) and Gulf countries. Before then we were backwards and often didn’t know how to pray due to the constraints of pre-industrial societies (eg poor literacy, lack of reach over the countryside)
This enforcement of orthodoxy was done mainly to purge jahil practices such as enslaving other Muslims (jahil Arabs often did this), bacha bazi/pederasty stemming from jahil Greco-Persian culture (found in Central Asia and Persianate Empires), Eastern despotism (vs the republican nature of Rashidun), brutal FGM from Fir’aun, excessive tribalism/blood feuds, worshipping the saints of graves and participating in perverse Sufi orgies etc.
So instead of romanticising the past as some enlightened time of ‘moderate Islam’ (apparently Somalis used to be 21st century Western liberals or something) until the terroristic Salafi nation attacked we should understand modern Islam as a means to lift backwardness, perversion and erase bid’ah
