Controversial but I think we should drop the Latin alphabet and bring back far-Wadaad or another specialized Arabic script. Most Somalis already have some experience with Arabic in dugsi. Those in the rural areas already know how to write in Arabic using ink and those long tablets. Easier to transition to, think of it like this. Imagine trying to teach some rural kid to write in Somali, with an Arabic script he’ll already be familiar with the layout and know how to write. The most basic schooling nearly all Somali kids go through is loox Quran. You’ll just have to introduce new harafs specific to the Somali language. With a Latin script your starting out with something foreign they’ll have to start from the very beginning to understand. 1623292482496.jpeg

Continuing with my other post a lot of this debate is fueled by nationalistic pride, and I know you’d like a special native script but it’s not realistic. If you want to help eliminate illiteracy I believe the fastest way is with a script already well known by nearly everyone.

I agree. There is no benefit to the Latin script either since most people don't even know how to spell certain words with it and it doesn't even help to learn languages like English which could be a potential benefit but native Somalis would pronounce any word with c wrong

Here's a simple argument. How about we teach kids how to write in Somali (Latin alphabet) before they learn to read Quran...you know, like a good education system hmmm:koby:

Your referring to a 3rd world nation with no United government? Not every kid can go to school fam but even the nomads who don’t know a single Arabic word could recite the Quran. Far wadaad also looks better and does our language justice unlike Latin... I think majority of far wadaad haters are just Arab haters, ex Muslims, Waaqist, etc.

Although I can say I don’t think far wadaad would be better than Latin, as a lot of diaspora and western investors want to do things for and in Somalia. Far wadaad will make that difficult.
The Arab Diaspora won't have trouble with it it's just the Western Diaspora. Also most investors In Somalia are Arabs anyway
