I wonder where they are today & if there descendents still live there.

my mom are from. xamar and she grew up with arabs, Indians Pakistanis in her neighborhood and my dad is from Kismayo there were arabs and Indians living in Kismayo and had business before the war thats how diverse the south was

That is why Somalis from Muqdishu and Kismayo are not into tribal obsession. Being somali was both your nationality and tribe since we were surrounded by other ethnic groups with Somali nationality.

Every other house in our Xaafad was non-ethnic somali.

They don't live there anymore. They were airlifted to Kenya, by the Indian/pakistan/UN council. They sold their houses to reer xamars. If you go to xamar weyne, you'll see what i'm talking about.

Heres a page on the Indian shia communities that arrived in xamar. The ones who ran the Masjid in Sheekh Muuminow that is. The one in the OP
The overwhelming majority of Indians in east africa are Gujurati, the ones in Koonfur were no different

That’s true, my aunt had met Indian trader who owned gold store in Mogadishu in Nairobi after 91. He told her that he lost all of his money.

Shibis - Yemeni dominated
Shangani - Indian-arab-bantu/arab mix dominated
Cabdicasiis - Many Eritrean and Habashi families who fled Ethiopia in early 1940s. There was a section called Camp Amxaaro
Shabelle - Half cast Italian residents
Boondhere - Hoose and Kore sections. I lived in the Kore section, but the other section were totally dominated by Xamaris and Jareer.

All in All though, Ethnic Somalis dominated the City always. But sizable Minorities in the above mentioned communities lived and were spread all over the old sections of the City.
