Today, the 27th of May 2021 marks the 33rd anniversary of the first Burco offensive in which the Somali National Army and the SNM exchanged fire in a battle for the very first time in history. This event was a turning point in the history of Somaliland as the SNA military in the area were defeated and the SNM took over the most important facilities such as the airport and military barracks. The city was fully under the control of SNM in 48 hours.
